Research:Male gaze

Male gaze is how women are portrayed thorough a man’s perspective, this can be brought up upon because of the type of clothing that women wear in music videos, the way that women are represented in music videos as objects, this is shown because of the camera lingers on the curves on a female body, and in some events women are presented in the context of a man’s reaction to these events.

 Laura Mulvey is a British feminist film theorist,who believed that women are seen as a viaul pleasure for men which is shown through the way the camrea has protrayed them which is shown through and number of close ups.

what the camrea is seen to do is lingar around the womens body having close ups on the breast of a women her thighs and a womens lips.

Tunnel Vision -Justin Timberlake

In this music video by Justin Timberlake we can see that a woman has no clothing on, and feeling her body, which relates to the male gaze because the female character is showing off her body parts in a sexual way. also the cinematography and lighting  in music video shows the woman more frequently  by putting the camera in different angles, and zoom  shots. of the womens breast .

The Cribs-Man`s Needs

In this music video we can see that  this female character is fully naked dancing around the banned and trying to get the bands  attention, by being very  promiscuous , this is show when she has a fake hand and rubbing it on her breast and also by kissing and lick the members of the band

N.E.R.D – Lap Dance

In this music video we can see that the members of this band are surrounded by women which have a limited amount of clothing, on who are being very flirtatious from this music video this can strongly relate to muvley theory because the way that the women act in this music video it stats everything  what she states.

 The citisims is that this is directed towards men – New age of commercialism this also assumes that every male is a hetroseuxal  and doesn’t consider female spectators and also the views are many from a heterosexual perspective..

  1. Some good information here on the theory itself, and you provide some good examples to portray the male gaze.

    To improve;
    -I'm not sure Mulvey says women should enjoy the 'Male Gaze', think about this again please
    -how does the cinematography portray the women? Where does the camera typically linger?
    -your criticisms of the theory do not make much sense, the gaze assumes that heterosexual men will like the video, but doesn't consider homosexual men

  2. Good, I can see that you have made changes and discussed the movement of the camera more. Also, the criticisms have been made clear according to assumptions of sexual preferences.
